Yellow Fever
Just a quick post to link to an interesting and thought provoking article I ran across:

The article over a year old, but it's highly relevant. It's about the Yellow Fever phenomenon, only from the perspective of the Asian female. It addresses many of the points I've ranted/blogged about before - the objectification, the myth of the Asian female as submissive and perfect, etc. Vickie also mentions some music references about stuff that's been on my mind but I haven't written about - stuff like Gwen Stefani's ridiculous "Harajuku Girls" (like she says, if it had been four black women called I dunno, the "Compton Girls", you can be damn sure that Jesse Jackson would've been on her ass in no time flat) or Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo's Yellow Fever anthem "El Scorcho" - Cuomo, incidentally, ended up marrying a Japanese girl last I heard.

Anyway, I just wanted to tell you that your bitterness is understandable. I am a White female, and I'm crazy about Asian men. Not the Americanized "I-look-Hispanic-and-not-even-Asian-at-all" muscle heads that strut around in Hollister and go by ridiculously Caucasian names like "Chuck" or "Kevin" or "Rick". I'm talking a lean, gangly, black-haired, can't-grow-a-mustache, collared shirt-wearing, bespectacled, flinty-eyed law student who is witty as hell but completely under-appreciated. And yet, as a White woman, I hear many of my own men talk about the beauty and perfection of the Asian female. They're skinnier, more exotic and more subservient. White women are spoiled hoes. While this might be true for the most part, I am not a spoiled ho, and would love to go out with a real Asian guy. They're really sexy. Basically, my friend showed me this webpage and I made a livejournal (I'm 23, so I retired from livejournal a while back) just so I could get in contact with you and tell you that we do exist. I know a few girls who think Asian men are really attractive. Asian men won't talk to us though. *shrug* So, I hope you get this, bitter Asian man. I hope to talk to you later.
It seems like Cuomo has always had something for Asian girls. In case you haven't noticed (because it's not as obvious as El Scorcho), Buddy Holly (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buddy_Holly_(song)#Trivia) is also about an Asian girl. Yellow fever is incurable... Not that I mind (I just wouldn't take it so seriously as long as it doesn't lead to sexual harassement).
